Grace Church Council – July

Congregation of Grace,

There has been a lot of activity over the last two months and the council wanted to catch you up on what’s happened.

Fine Arts Camp & VBS

Lindsay Chandler, Gloria Lynn, and Rachel Hall have been busy the last two months. Over 235 children participated in these two awesome programs! There were many hours put in by staff and volunteers and by any measure, both ministries were extremely successful.

Fine Arts Camp spanned two weeks culminating in a full-on variety show last Friday and a showcase on Sunday morning! There were 40+ dedicated volunteers. What we’re impressed with is the greater Rockford arts community came together to teach and support our youth here at Grace! Special thanks go to Mr. Mark West (drama) & Mr. Lamont Harris (dance). They have been wonderful supporters of our ministries and are nice enough to share their expertise. Thank you!

Vacation Bible School was a whirlwind of a week in June. There were a ton of campers and a wonderful group of volunteers that made the week go without a hitch.

Next week is Backyard Bible! Stay tuned.

Grace Preschool

If you haven’t seen the pics on Facebook, take a look! The newly renovated preschool is complete and the teachers are hard at work bringing the new rooms to life. Jill Miller and her team are working tirelessly getting the rooms decorated and stocked in preparation for our 130+ students staring in September.

Pastor Dustin has been hard at work tying up any loose ends and making sure we’re good to go for the start of the year.

As of the week of July 14th, we are still waiting to hear from DCFS for a final walk-through and certification. We need that in enough time to start the school year. The “silver lining” is, we’re waiting on them.

Special thanks to Pastor Dustin, Jill Miller, the Preschool Board and Paul Humphries for being so diligent in ensuring timely completion and a great job! Make sure to say thanks for all of their hard work if you see any one of them!

And a special thank you to the congregation of Grace. Without the continued support for this transformation, we wouldn’t be able to serve our community in the ways we have for the last 90 years. This is a momentous event in our history as a church and allows for us to carry on God’s work for the youth and families within our community.

Church Council Update

Bethany Semevolos served as our Council Secretary and has stepped away. We sincerely appreciate her service and dedication! Thank you!

Cathy Arnold, former Council Secretary, has volunteered to keep council minutes until there can be an official replacement. Thank you for volunteering!

Up Next

There are many more things right around the corner. There’s the Photo Directory, the 90th anniversary dinner, the start of Preschool and Sunday School, and much, much more. The next council meeting is Monday, August 4th. Check-in and see what’s happening!

God Bless!
